We focus on developing movement skills in a fun atmosphere in our classes for our students with intellectual, physical and cognitive disabilities. Basic concepts like stop-go, fast-slow, high-low, and big-small are emphasized. The focus of the class is for students to experience movement and activity in a positive manner with lively music, games, props, rhymes, and more. Traditional dance technique is not emphasized in this class, but rather body awareness, the joy of physical activity, and the connection of body and mind.
mini combo Combo
This class is designed for our youngest dancers who want to express their independence without the assistance of mom or dad. Dancers will have fun learning pre-ballet and tap movements to popular children's music through movement games. Props such as pom poms, hula hoops, and bean bags are used to enhance the learning experience. Class sizes are kept very small to assure plenty of individual attention for our youngest dancers.
Dancers will enjoy this interactive class that builds on basic movements learned in the Mini Combo 2-3 year old class, however this class is still appropriate for first-time dancers. The Tap portion of the class will concentrate on building confidence through mastering more difficult patterns and steps. The Ballet portion of class includes an introduction to the ballet barre and learning more challenging steps
Based on fundamentals, our Modern program stresses technique for all levels of classes. Monarch implements the techniques passed down from the great modern teachers, including new and contemporary styles. Dancers should expect Barre and floor work in class, allowing them to connect with a new physical alignment with their bodies in a revered form of artistic expression.
Monarch's lyrical program starts with the technique of ballet and combines this with jazz and contemporary movements to tell a story, connecting to an emotion or a deeper idea. Barre and floor work are included in this curriculum. All dancers are required to have a level of ballet skill to allow them to grow artistically and emotionally. Dancers must be enrolled in a Ballet class to take Lyrical.
